United Way of Central Indiana

Welcome to the IUPUI campaign!

To all our compassionate IUPUI colleagues:

IUPUI, for the last time as IUPUI, is partnering with United Way of Central Indiana to make a positive impact for those who could benefit from greater access to resources and services. Let’s make this year the best year yet! Today marks the beginning of the IUPUI United Way Campaign—one of our campus’s long-standing traditions that creates positive, enduring change in our own backyards.

United Way and IUPUI share similar missions while valuing collaboration, innovation, and equitable access to resources and opportunities.  We encourage you to consider giving generously to United Way. Many IUPUI students, faculty, staff, and community partners rely on the resources and services of these agencies. Thus, your support can help us make a collective impact in our community. Because of last year’s United Way campaign, IUPUI employees supported a total of 62 nonprofit organizations of their own choosing with a combined investment of $51,664.40. The remaining $150,000 raised from the campaign was used to support United Way of Central Indiana initiatives, programs, and grantmaking directly. Congratulations Team IUPUI!

For 2023, our campus goal is set at just over $217,000, let’s crush it! We know that this is a busy year of transition for everyone on our campus and we hope that this campaign can be viewed as a bright spot of positivity and continuity of our campus’s commitment to the community. We look forward to IUPUI donors stepping up, volunteering, and pledging their support to United Way of Central Indiana and its fight against our community’s most challenging social issues. This year, we encourage you to pledge what you can, including seeking out opportunities to learn about and get involved with the agencies and programs supported by United Way of Central Indiana.

We are continually grateful for all our employees at IUPUI and all they have done and continue to do on behalf of others in the communities we live in. Together, we can and do positively impact the broader community through our support of United Way. Our hearts are warmed by the many stories shared that demonstrate our connections with our United Way agency partners. We encourage you to share your story with us as well.

Thank you for being part of our caring IUPUI family, and for demonstrating your compassion through a gift to United Way. We look forward to engaging with you throughout our campaign, including at these events:

  • Tuesday, September 6th, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – On-Campus Campaign Kick-off Event with music, food, and fun, located in the Taylor Courtyard
  • Wednesday, October 25th, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Silent Auction in the Campus Center Atrium

We encourage you to also connect with your unit’s United Way Ambassador to support the campaign with your colleagues in fun and unique ways. Please reach out to either of us when you have questions or need additional information throughout our campus campaign, which concludes on October 25, 2023.

Sincerely,

IUPUI United Way Co-Chairs

Why United Way?

In the early 20th century, United Way was founded on the premise that we all have a stake in the health and well-being of our neighbors and our communities. If we work together and take action, we can stop poverty’s devastating effect on people, in neighborhoods and throughout our society.

From our evolution as a “Community Chest” where neighbors pooled resources together to solve tough problems, to our role today as a social impact organization, United Way is committed to eliminating poverty by focusing on four areas that predict financial success for individuals and families:

  • Basic essentials for neighbors who need it the most.
  • Early care, literacy and school success for young children.
  • Paths to better employment and higher earnings for adults.
  • Safe and affordable housing for families and youth facing homelessness.

How does United Way make impact happen?

Every donation to United Way helps to support community organizations working tirelessly to confront intergenerational poverty. You likely know all about the significant funding we provide to human service organizations because of generous donors like you, but our work is so much more than grantmaking.

 With your support:

  1. We advocate for good public policies that advance our cause at all levels of government.
  2. We equip nonprofits with the resources they need to operate at their highest level.
  3. We convene experts and collaborate with direct service providers to create innovative ways to distance families from poverty.
  4. We use real-time data and listen to community voices to guide our work.
  5. We administer initiatives in direct response to timely community needs.

In essence, we can do what we promise: rally our community to help us reduce the number of people living in poverty and prevent our neighbors from experiencing it in the first place.
